Life Fitness has joined forces with Competition Line on a £2.2m refurbishment project designed to transform Lightwater Leisure Centre into one of the top fitness and sporting facilities in the area.
Set in the conservation area of Lightwater Country Park in Surrey, the re-birth of Lightwater Leisure Centre is nearing its completion.
The new 9,500sq ft fitness arena has been updated with top of the range 95 series Life Fitness equipment with integrated LCD screens, while the strength area has seen the introduction of Signature and Hammer Strength machines.
As part of phase 1, a new fitness studio and separate group training room has also been created.
The training room features a Life Fitness Express Circuit, which offers classes for a range of groups including children and the over 50s.
Phase 2 will see the redevelopment of the ground floor which will include new changing rooms, a reception area and bar as well as a new sports hall, all-weather pitch and revamped car park.
"The aim is to provide for all ages in the community and the refurbishment will put our fitness suite in a strong position amongst rivals," says General Manager, Christophe Hardy.
"The new gym is a state of the art facility; the Life Fitness equipment is easy to use whilst challenging to help members achieve their goals. The overall feel of the facility means it’s welcoming to everyone especially prospective members."
Lightwater Leisure Centre first opened its doors to the public in December 1998. It's set in 143 acres of protected woodland and offers plenty of fun and exciting ways to keep fit. Already offering the surrounding community a varied range of sports and activities, this is set to increase by almost 100 per cent with the addition of new activity clubs and classes on the timetable.
Since the turn of the New Year, the refurbishment has helped increase membership dramatically. Currently standing at just under 1,000 it is expected to increase as the new fitness suite attracts more attention. Hardy puts the success down to a number of factors. "The difference in quality, both with the equipment and general atmosphere, means that it is more pleasant to work out and bring the fun element back to being a gym member."
Antony Morrison, Account Manager at Life Fitness, says: "We’re delighted to be continuing our successful partnership with Competition Line for almost 20 years.
"Seeing the leisure provision significantly enhanced in the local community in such a short time is a fantastic achievement and we are very proud to have played an integral part in the refurbishment."
