RSG Group has launched the flagship club for Heimat – the gym giant’s new fitness and wellness brand – in Los Angeles. It's the first of a number of sites expected to open over the next three years in Dallas, San Francisco, Berlin, and other cities.

Set over five floors across a 75,000sq ft space, Heimat offers a fitness centre, boutique classes, a spa, co-working lounge, rooftop swimming pool and a restaurant by Michelin-starred chef, Michael Mina.

Heimat, in German, means the place you feel most at home and this concept provided the inspiration for the founder, owner and CEO of RSG Group Rainer Schaller to develop this new club for the premium market, combining a high-end health club and a private members' club.

“Having worked in every aspect of the fitness market for over 25 years, it was clear that the industry was missing an exclusive place where you could find every type of training under one roof and where members experience a feeling of familiarity and belonging,” said Schaller. “We believe in nourishing both the body and mind, and we felt that the time was right to introduce Heimat.”

Gym facilities include cardio machines by Technogym and weight and functional training equipment from Gym80. There's also a one-on-one personal training service.

Heimat has a series of club-in-club boutiques, including a TRX boutique and another offering Technogym Kinesis. The offering is completed by dedicated studios for cycling, yoga, boxing and reformer Pilates.

Members can also access Heimat’s app to find booked classes and follow results, which are automatically tracked in Technogym’s Mywellness platform. Users can set up the equipment to their personalised programme with a QR code and sync devices such as Garmin, Fitbit, Apple Health and Strava.

The spa offers a wide range of treatments, including IV and holistic recovery therapies, as well as a dry sauna, silent relaxation room and European foot spa.

Members can access all Heimat’s facilities for a monthly fee of US$350.

“Los Angeles is the perfect place to introduce a concept that sets a new standard for fitness and living well,” said Sebastian Schoepe, president and CEO of RSG Group North America. “We chose the city as the base for Heimat's flagship because of its passion for wellness and its track record for setting fitness trends for the rest of the world.”

Schaller says the spaces are intended to “ignite all the senses” and the interiors feature a fusion of original artwork, including graffiti from Mr. Brainwash. The restaurant – called Mother Tongue – was designed by Martin Brudnizki who created The Ivy in London.

“Our goal is to create an experience that you can not only touch, see, taste, hear, and smell, but one that also taps into a sixth sense, one that reminds you of a safe and beloved space,” said Schaller.

Heimat is one of 20 brands, including Gold’s Gym and McFit, owned by RSG Group. It operates facilities across around 1,000 locations in 48 countries to serve around 6.4m customers.
