Welsh cycle to the moon as part of I Pledge initiative
POSTED 03 Oct 2012 . BY Kath Hudson
Almost 2000 centres have now signed up for I Pledge, the wellness initiative launched in January by Technogym, the British Olympic Association and the British Paralympic Association.

I Pledge asks members of the public to make a promise to improve their health and lifestyle by making healthier choices, or fulfilling sporting goals. The social networking site Movergy.com allows people to support and encourage each other.

Tesco and Monmouth Fitness Centre have teamed up to cycle the equivalent distance from the earth to the moon in 500 stores through Wales and at Pencoed School, in Wales, pupils ran an Olympic distance triathlon as a team relay.

Technogym is taking it out to schools, clubs, universities and local authority centres and hopes to support a community project by Olympic silver medallist, Christine Ohurugou, through donating the equipment used for the Games.

I Pledge was launched in London on 1 March. From left: Christine Ohuruogu (Olympic Athlete), Tony Majakas (managing director, Technogym), Alain Giorgio Maria Economides (Italian ambassador to the United Kingdom), Sophia Warner (paralympic athlete), Nerio Alessandri (founder and president, Technogym), Tim Hollingsworth CEO of British Paralympic Association), Paul Deighton (CEO of LOCOG) and Andrew Hunt (CEO, BOA).
