SkillsActive is to conduct a survey on the need for increased foreign language, cultural and communication skills within the active leisure sector as part of its Talking Sport project.
According to the sector skills council, increasing globalisation in sport - both at an amateur and a professional level - has brought about a greater need for effective communication.
SkillsActive is now looking into the possibility of offering tailored resources for enhancing communication skills and linguistics through its Talking Sport initiative.
Patrick Knock, development officer at SkillsActive, said: "We know from our work with those within the sporting industry that a love of sport is something that brings people together regardless of nationality or ethnic background, but we also know that this in turn can create communication problems.
"What we'd like to achieve is to firstly identify communications issues across a range of sports during a consultation period, and secondly devise a range of learning programmes to tackle these issues and give people the tools to improve their language skills."
