PureGym is about to break a new international market
Its first gym in Ireland will open in Dublin next year
CEO, Alex Wood, describes this as an important milestone

The Republic of Ireland will become the latest market in PureGym’s expanding international portfolio, with the first launch planned for Dublin in 2027.

The move will mark the next stage of the group’s international growth strategy, with PureGym saying it sees significant expansion potential in the market.

While the company has not disclosed how many clubs it plans to open in Ireland, the launch supports its wider ambition to grow its estate to more than 1,000 gyms globally by 2030.

The launch comes at a time when appetite for physical activity is rising across the Republic of Ireland, alongside growing demand for access to affordable fitness.

Recent research from Sport Ireland shows that personal exercise, including weightlifting and cardio, has become the most popular form of sport in the country, with 20 per cent of people now taking part in this form of exercise weekly – an increase from 12 per cent in 2017.

Alex Wood, group CEO of PureGym, said: “We're thrilled to be opening in the Republic of Ireland, a country with a rich history of sport, exercise and activity.

“Dublin is an iconic city and a great place for us to start in this exciting new market. Today’s news marks an important milestone in our mission to inspire healthier nations by bringing high-quality, low-cost fitness to an even wider audience, at affordable prices.

“Whether gym-goers prefer lifting, stretching, sprinting or are starting from scratch – we’ll provide the space, the kit and the support to help them achieve their goals. The PureGym brand will be in Dublin in early 2027 and we can’t wait to get started.”

Founded in 2008, PureGym pioneered the low-cost, no-contract gym model in the UK and has grown to become one of Europe’s largest fitness operators.

The company now operates more than 700 clubs worldwide, serving around two million members, including over 460 in the UK, alongside operations in Switzerland, Denmark, the US and the Middle East.

The company’s international expansion has been driven by a combination of organic growth, acquisition and franchising, with the Republic of Ireland becoming the latest addition to its global footprint.

The Dublin launch will extend PureGym’s mission to increase access to fitness through large-scale, technology-enabled gyms, flexible memberships and affordable pricing.

No-contract memberships will be offered starting at €29.99.
