Sustainability-focused trade association GSN Planet has launched a new training programme to educate spa professionals about environmentally conscious spa management.

Now accessible on the GSN Planet website, the Sustainable Spa Practitioner course provides wellness practitioners with the knowledge and tools to implement sustainable practices within their establishments.

Combining theoretical materials with a practical workshop, the course spans four levels, offering 11 hours of comprehensive instruction.

GSN says those who complete the course will be able to:
• Appreciate how sustainability principles are applied to spas.
• Identify the commercial benefits associated with a sustainable spa business.
• Implement green building principles in new or existing spa buildings.
• Incorporate sustainable fixtures and fittings in spas.
• Select sustainable and ethical cosmetic products for spas.
• Select sustainable and ethical consumables for spas.
• Apply the management principles necessary to create a sustainable spa.
• Incorporate water and energy efficiencies in spas.
• Implement Fair Trade practices.
• Practise responsible waste management in spas.
• Conduct a sustainability audit.

Course materials include the Greenspa Guide as a textbook, a license to utilise GSN Planet's Greenspa Calculator software as an auditing tool and access to template sustainability policies and reports.

Upon successful completion of the programme, participants will undergo an assessment and receive a certificate.

"As sustainability continues to be a top priority within the industry, we’re excited to offer the Sustainable Spa Practitioner course as a valuable resource for professionals seeking to enhance their expertise in environmentally conscious spa management," said Maggy Dunphy, Board President for GSN Planet.

"By equipping wellness practitioners with the necessary knowledge and tools, we aim to drive positive change and foster a sustainable future for the spa industry."

The Sustainable Spa Practitioner course was developed by Charné le Roux, founder of Greenspa.Africa and GSN Planet board director chairing the Sustainability Committee.
