The Global Wellness Summit (GWS) has unveiled its latest trends report containing its top nine wellness trends for 2021.

Predictions range from a focus on breathwork and immune-health to the importance of diversity, inclusion and accessibility in wellness.

Released annually, The Global Wellness Trends Report features new directions – with dedicated chapters – which the GWS believes will have the most meaningful impact on the US$4.5trn global wellness industry.

The forecast is based on the insights of hundreds of international executives of wellness companies, economists, doctors, investors, academics and technologists that gathered in person and virtually at the recent GWS.

One key trend that is highlighted is a ‘self-care renaissance’ which Cecelia Girr, strategy director, at TBWA Worldwide and Skyler Hubler, cultural strategist at TBWA Worldwide, take a deep dive into.

The authors argue that in light of the pandemic, we’re witnessing a renaissance where "two complementary yet often competing entities – healthcare and wellness – will converge".

Girr and Hubler believe this will only accelerate in the wake of the pandemic as society continues to prioritise and protect health and wellbeing to control the COVID-19 crisis.

Other trends include predictions about a potential growth in interest in financial wellness, wellness architecture and collaboration between major media platforms and the wellness world, plus how wellness can help reset events and the way we travel.

The report was also written by Beth McGroarty, VP of research and forecasting at GWI, Nancy Davis, GWI and GWS chief creative officer and executive director, Tonia Callender, GWI research fellow, Veronica Schreibeis Smith, founder of Vera Iconica Architecture and Developments, Sandra Ballentine, beauty and health editor at large of W Magazine and Elaine Glusac, freelance writer.

GWI chair and CEO Susie Ellis said the report reinforces that wellness is crucial in contributing to the battle against controlling and confronting COVID-19.

“Going forward, those who engage in taking good care of themselves and preventing chronic illness will be in the best position to stay healthy and thrive,” she stated.
