First Apple hotel planned as part of new Austin campus

Tech giant, Apple, has received approval from City of Austin planners in Texas, for a six-storey, 192-bed, 76,000sq ft hotel, as part of a new US$1bn campus being built to the north-west of the city.

The original outline plans for the development, submitted in December 2018, did not include a hotel and it's thought the facility has been added to COVID-proof Apple exec's travel exposure.

The development started on site in November 2019 with planning consent for the hotel addition given on 29 April 2020. The campus is slated to open in 2022.

It's not known at this stage who will operate the hotel.

Studio 8 Architects are the lead designers for the overall campus, with Nudge Design working as landscape architects on the 50-acre parkland setting.

Cardno are structural engineers, while Bay and Associates are handling mechanical engineering.

Apple’s Austin campus will range across three million sq ft and include two million sq ft of office space to accommodate up to 15,000 employees. The company already employs around 7,000 people in Austin.
