Organised by not for profit body ukactive, Active Uprising 2019 will take place in Manchester on 6 June

We need to break down the barriers to activity for women and revolutionise the way we speak about women in sport
– Amy Williams
Sports psychologist Jeremy Snape and Olympic gold medallist Amy Williams are among the keynote speakers at this year's Active Uprising.

Snape will draw on insights from in-depth interviews with sporting leaders – such as Pep Guardiola, Mo Farah, Boris Becker and Jose Mourinho – to explore how to build and instill resilience in oneself and others.

Meanwhile, Williams will be joined on stage by Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson to lead a debate on how the physical activity industry can overcome the participation gap for women and girls.

“Women are still less likely than men to be physically active, a stubborn disparity that means hundreds of thousands are missing out on the physical, social and mental benefits of regular exercise," Williams said.

“We need to break down the barriers to activity for women and revolutionise the way we speak about women in sport. I’m so excited to be at Active Uprising alongside Tanni to lead this conversation.”

Organised by not for profit body ukactive, Active Uprising 2019 will take place in Manchester on 6 June.

The event will this year feature five strands: Challenging the Mindset, ukactive Kids, ActiveLab, Sweat, and Empowering the Workforce.

Consisting of keynote talks, workshops and parallel sessions, the event aims to set the agenda for the next five years of sector growth, with a focus on knowledge sharing that empowers every organisation to achieve its ambitions.

A new addition for this year, Challenging the Mindset will address some of the biggest challenges the sector faces today, such as facility development and widening participation, in order to foster a truly active community.

Elsewhere, the ActiveLab strand will again showcase some of the hottest new tech start-ups in physical activity; while ukactive Kids will explore family-focused engagement and coaching communities.

The boutique fitness market will be explored in the Sweat strand, while Empowering the Workforce will explore how organisations can unlock the potential of their frontline staff.

ukactive acting CEO Huw Edwards said: “Building on the success of last year, Active Uprising 2019 is unmissable for anyone in our sector who wants to see clearly the road that lies ahead for physical activity.

"By coming together, we can share learning and become a truly open and collaborative community that drives change in every society.”
