Town Sports International acquires Total Woman Gym and Spa chain
POSTED 26 Feb 2018 . BY Tom Walker
All 12 clubs acquired by Town Sports will continue to operate under the Total Woman brand
New York-based holding company Town Sports International has expanded its portfolio of fitness chains by acquiring the Total Woman Gym and Spa business.

The deal, for an undisclosed sum, will see Town Sports take control of all 12 clubs owned and operated by California-based Total Woman, which was founded in 1965 by Art and Adrienne Stone.

All 12 clubs will continue to operate under the Total Woman brand.

"The opportunity to expand into California with a well-known brand was an easy decision," said Patrick Walsh, Town Sports chair and CEO.

The acquisition comes less than two years after Town Sports purchased the women-only Lucille Roberts Health Clubs and its 16 sites.

Following the Total Woman deal, Town Sports is inching closer to having a total of 200 sites.

The company listed on the NASDAQ in 2007, in an initial public offering which generated US$116m (£64m).

Its current portfolio is concentrated on the east coast of the US and includes 101 New York Sports Club-branded sites in New York and another 28 Boston Sports Clubs in Boston. Outside the US, the group owns three clubs in Switzerland.
