The new East Stand will increase in size, but not in spectator capacity
Redevelopment works are set to take place on Twickenham’s East Stand after a proposal was giving the green light by the local authority.
Richmond Council has approved the Rugby Football Union’s (RFU) plan to extend the space by 11,600sq m, although the stadium’s capacity will not increase.
The space will include hospitality facilities, a new bar and dining areas. Exclusive facilities will also be developed for England Rugby debenture holders.
“We’re delighted that the Planning Committee voted to support our plans to upgrade the East Stand at Twickenham Stadium and we welcomed additional feedback from Richmond Council at the planning meeting,” said RFU chief executive Ian Ritchie.
“We now look forward to progressing plans that will ensure that Twickenham Stadium continues to be a world-class facility and a facility that also brings benefit to the local community.”
