DLL opens new £10m Glasgow club
POSTED 14 Sep 2016 . BY Tom Walker
The opening of the new DLL Glasgow club was attended by Judy Murray
David Lloyd Leisure (DLL) has opened its 93rd club at Rouken Glen, Glasgow.

The opening of the £10m club comes a week after the business unveiled its first ever TV advertising campaign – launched as part of a high profile, £5m re-branding campaign.

The 4,900sq m (52,700sq ft) new club is part of a £20m investment made by DLL in its Scottish portfolio during 2016.

The new club offers tennis and sports facilities, a health and fitness club, three indoor exercise studios offering more than 100 classes a week, an 18-hole golf course and driving range, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a luxury day spa and a dedicated zone for childrens’ activities.

It is expected that the opening will create more than 75 new jobs in the area.

Glasgow is DLL’s third new opening this year, following clubs in Newbury, Berkshire and Antwerp (Belgium).

A fourth new club – in Colchester, Essex – will open in October and DLL is also preparing to launch its first Spanish club in Aravaca, Madrid in early 2017.

Attending the official opening, Glenn Earlam, DLL chief executive, said: “The opening of our new club in Rouken Glen is just one part of an ambitious expansion and investment programme in the UK, across Europe and beyond.

“The reaction to our TV campaign has been one of genuine surprise. Many people didn’t understand the depth and breadth of our product offering.

“We are far more than just a gym or tennis centre – we are a club where adults and children can not only stay healthy and active, but also spend quality time with friends and family, or use as a hub to work and relax in modern, stylish surroundings.

“Family very much sits at the heart of our brand, and we have aimed to create a warm and friendly club environment to suit the needs of members whatever age and life stage.”

As part of the rebranding, DLL has invested £80m refurbishing and developing 77 of its existing UK clubs.

In total, DLL currently operates 82 clubs in the UK and a further 11 sites across Europe under its David Lloyd Clubs , Harbour Clubs and David Lloyd Studio brands.
