Football bodies pledge £750k for storm-damaged facilities
POSTED 16 Dec 2015 . BY Matthew Campelli
Clubs can apply for funding through their local County FAs Credit: Football Association
The Football Association (FA) and the Premier League have set aside £750,000 (US$1.1m, €1m) to aid football clubs who have had their facilities destroyed by Storm Desmond.

Funding is available for grassroots football clubs and those across the FA National League system whose pitches, changing rooms and spectator facilities have been damaged by the strong winds and heavy rainfall affecting the north in early December.

The fund is being co-ordinated by grassroots charity the Football Foundation, and administered by the six County FAs across the affected regions – Cumberland, Durham, Lancashire, Northumberland, Westmorland and West Riding.

The Emergency Football Relief Fund has been derived from a £500,000 (US$751,334, €687,282) donation from the Premier League and FA Facilities Fund – which is funded by the Premier League, FA and Sport England – and an additional £250,000 (US$375,649, €343,671) coming from the Premier League-funded Football Stadia Improvement Fund.

“The funds are intended to make facilities safe and fit for purpose again, which is one way in which we can help communities return to normality after the devastating impact of the floods,” said FA chief executive Martin Glenn.

“We know we need to offer access to this money quickly and we are making sure this will happen through the County FAs.”

Clubs that have been affected are being encouraged to talk to their County FA. Contact details can be found here.

Earlier on this week, Sport England announced that it was ploughing £200,000 (US$302,355, €275,699) into damaged facilities in storm affected areas.
