Places for People Leisure celebrates Wandsworth contract renewal with £3.5m investment programme
POSTED 10 Dec 2015 . BY Jak Phillips
One of the stand-out refurbs was that of Grade II listed Balham Leisure Centre – a building which celebrated its 100th birthday last year
Places for People Leisure (PfPL) has overseen a £3.5m investment programme across five of its seven sites in Wandsworth, having recently landed a new seven-year management contract from Wandsworth Council to continue operating the portfolio.

Leisure centres at Balham, Latchmere, Tooting, Putney and Wandle were the beneficiaries of the redevelopment project, which saw a number of upgrades to their wellness facilities, including newly-supplied gym kit from Escape and Matrix Fitness.

One of the stand-out refurbs was that of Grade II listed Balham Leisure Centre – a building which celebrated its 100th birthday last year. The site benefited from an improved reception area, bigger dance studio, new poolside sauna and steamrooms, full revamp of the wet changing village, plus improvements to the weights room and changing rooms.

“We are incredibly proud of how much our centres in Wandsworth have come on over the past six months,” said Emma Martlow, PfPL contract marketing manager for Wandsworth.

“These redevelopments continue to demonstrate our commitment to ensuring that local communities have access to centres where they are able to engage in a healthier lifestyle through physical activity.”
