Amsterdam's shiny new Supperclub brings colour and culture to old brewery

After seventeen years, Amsterdam’s original Supperclub – a mixture of restaurant, lounge, gallery, bar and club – has moved to a new home, complete with a colourful interior design by Dutch concept creators Concrete.

Located in the old Odeon brewery building in the heart of the city’s canal belt, guests to the new Supperclub arrive through the kitchen and enter an oval hall with lavish ornamental elements and a grand LED-lit dome ceiling.

From here the club offers “a complete harmony of food, drinks, lights and sound, merged into an atmosphere that offers an escape from the everyday world.”

In the afternoons and evenings one long bed fills the edges of the space, giving guests the chance to relax and experience avant-garde musical performances from an adjacent stage and DJ booth, and eat food which is prepared in front of them on one long movable kitchen table which can also double as a cocktail station. Two marble bars – one in the kitchen and one at the side of the main hall – serve drinks throughout the day.

As night falls the music gets louder, the tables are removed and the beds are flipped into dancing platforms. Above the hall’s architrave, a large string of fluorescent lights illuminate the venue with vibrant colours.

In a company statement, Concrete said: “The new location provided the opportunity to add some new, innovative elements to the Supperclub. Beamers are placed throughout the entire hall, allowing visuals over almost 225 degrees to take over the space. Through mapping, the visuals exclude the interior’s iconic columns, which not only emphasises the architectural quality of the room, but also gives more depth to the space and the performances.”

Concept creators Concrete designed a new stainless steel door for the building as an ode to the Supperclub’s heritage. The original building featured a heavy solid brass door embellished with over 400 brass name tags of artists, musicians, intellectuals and other regular guests.

“The new door symbolises a new era,” said Concrete. “Over the coming years, stainless steel tags will fill the door with names of guests who mean the world to Supperclub, creating a new generation and heritage for this special venue.”
