UEFA will also hold a full executive committee meeting in Paris on 11 December
Europe’s football governing body UEFA has confirmed that the Euro 2016 football championship – due to be played across ten cities in France next year – will go ahead as planned.
In a statement, a spokesperson for UEFA added that the draw for Euro 2016 will also be held in Paris next month – in a show of defiance against last Friday’s terror attacks in the city.
The draw – which will determine the teams to play each other at next year’s tournament – will take place on 12 December. UEFA will also hold a full executive committee meeting in Paris on 11 December.
“There will be no changes, all events will take place as scheduled,” a spokesperson said in a statement.
"The Euro final draw will go ahead as scheduled on 12 December at the Palais des Congres in Paris and the final tournament will be played in France from 10 June to 10 July 2016."
• One of the co-ordinated suicide attacks last Friday targeted the Stade de France football stadium in Paris, where a friendly game was being played between France and Germany in front of 40,000 people.
One of the bombers had a ticket to the game, but the explosive vest he was carrying was found during a security check at the gate and he was blocked from entering the stadium.
Upon discovery, the man – believed to be acting on behalf of the so called Islamic State, an Islamic terror group operating in Syria and Iraq – blew himself up, killing himself but only injuring security officials.
