Rumours circulating in the last few days have been confirmed today (26 August) as Universal Orlando Resort announced a Fast & Furious attraction for 2017.

Joining the line-up at the Universal Studios Florida park, the announcement comes hot on the heels of the opening of Fast & Furious: Supercharged at Universal Studios Hollywood in June this year.

The Fast & Furious attraction – inspired by Universal Pictures’ highest-grossing film franchise of all time – is set to further boost the growth of the Orlando destination, whose attendance grew 17 per cent between 2013 and 2014 on the back of the addition of Diagon Alley and Hogwarts Express.

Fast & Furious: Supercharged is a hydraulic motion thrill ride promising to feature original content with appearances by the franchise’s well-known cast, including Vin Diesel (Dom Toretto), Dwayne Johnson (Hobbs), Michelle Rodriguez (Letty) and Tyrese Gibson (Roman).

The turbo-charged attraction will replace Beetlejuice Graveyard Revue and Disaster: A Major Motion Picture Starring You!, both of which will close later this year.

“In Fast & Furious: Supercharged, guests will be immersed in the underground racing world made famous in the films, explore the headquarters of Toretto and his team and even get to check out some of the supercharged cars they’ve seen on the big screen,” according to a press statement from Universal Parks & Resorts.

“Then, guests will board specially designed vehicles and take off on an adrenaline-pumping ride with their favourite stars from the films.”

The newly opened ride at Universal Studios Hollywood is a hi-tech attraction where riders travel at perceived speeds of 120mph (193kph). It boasts cutting-edge special effects, a state-of-the-art 3D audio system and 3D-HD imagery projected onto the world's longest and most expansive 360-degree screen. Thirty-four 4K projectors immerse visitors in a world of "unprecedented realism".
