A new running app which aims to ensure runners of all abilities stay on track with their training and reach their race goals has been launched as a free download for Apple device users.

Citing statistics that one in five runners never make it to the start line of their intended race due to barriers to consistent training such as busy schedules, injuries, kids, holidays and even the weather, InYourStride aims to help runners overcome life’s hurdles.

The app – conceived by Bristol-based triathlete Shaun Lancaster – is supported by an expert coaching team providing specialist insights on technique, motivation and data analysis.

InYourStride creates a customised training plan for each runner, which flexes around their diary by allowing them to choose their training days, with the ability to make last minute changes on the fly. It then adapts to a runner’s progress, including pacing and sessions completed. If there are periods of inactivity due to holiday or injury, the app will automatically adjust for this and recalculate the training programme and get the runner back on track to their goal.

The app combines bespoke training sessions with the GPS, accelerometer and mapping technology to track sessions and feed progress into a custom plan. InYourStride also holds details of more than 20,000 worldwide events, to help with the task of finding race goals across 5k, 10k, half marathon and marathon distances.

“We’re seeing a massive increase in runners from all walks of life entering races or events in order to get fit, to raise money or for a real sense of achievement,” said Lancaster.

“But then work, family, illness, injuries, demotivation and adverse winter weather typically conspire to mean many of those signing up for races will never make it to the start line. Our new adaptive running app will help runners of all abilities cross the finish line.”
