Lionsgate 'deep into conversation' over Hunger Games theme park

Plans for multiple Hunger Games theme parks have entered advanced stages, with franchise owner Lionsgate saying it is “deep into conversation” with potential theme-park partners on four different continents.

Whether or not a Hunger Games theme park would act as a standalone IP or would take the route of a Marvel or a Harry Potter and slot into theme parks as a themed zone is unclear, but Lionsgate Studios CEO Jon Feltheimer said during a conference call “we are excited about those (theme park) opportunities and are pursuing them.”

Rumours of a theme park based on the franchise have been swirling for several months, however this is the first concrete evidence that Lionsgate is seriously looking into using the IP in that capacity, while other attractions possibilities are still ‘open’, according to Feltheimer.

Feltheimer also revealed in June that plans are in the works to launch a travelling museum based around the hit series of books, later made into a series films.

The film series – which has grossed US$832m (€632m, £496m) at the box office from the first two of four installments – will culminate in November 2015 with The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2.
