Resort manager The Small Maldives Island Company will soon launch two new affordable island resorts set to offer daily spa treatments for every guest, and complimentary water sports.

The Amilla Fushi resort will open in November 2014 and the Finolhu expects to open in Q4 of 2015. Both are owned and currently being developed by Coastline Hotels and Resorts – part of the Coastline Group – one of the Maldives’ largest private companies. Further details of the properties’ spas are not being released at this time.

The Small Maldives Island Company says it is seizing an opportunity in the Maldives that has not been exploited yet, by providing affordable holiday options.

“My business partners (chairman and co-founder Michael Flynn and director of operations Carsten Schieck) and I have all been involved in Maldives resorts for a long time and have all been hankering to do something to shake things up and move away from the status quo – now we have the opportunity to bring our ideas to life,” co-founder of The Small Island Company Tom McLoughlin, known for his role at spa creator company Per Aquum told Spa Opportunities. Per Aquum, the spa division of Universal Enterprises, was bought out by Minor Hotel Group MHG) in 2013.

“We want our spa experience to be accessible, indulgent and worry-free, so guests can enjoy it without feeling that they can’t afford to have treatments,” McLoughlin added. “The treatments are simply part of the experience, as breakfast would be. Guests can’t carry them over if they miss them, but a selection of treatments will be available to all guests daily – and can be transferred to a partner or travelling companion on the day.”

The daily complimentary treatment is one which will last for 50 minutes. McLoughlin declined to reveal the pricing structure for the business model at this stage.

Located on the UNESCO biosphere reserve of Baa Atoll, Amilla Fushi will be an informal island home which offers laid back luxury with purpose-designed houses, unlike the deluxe accommodation found at other Maldivian resorts. Finolhu, also located on the Atoll, will be a relaxed haven for “sociable singles, fun-loving travellers and millennial families,” according to a statement. Its 126 rooms, 88 of which are on the water, are cocooned on the secluded Finolhu Private Island.

Other amenities include non-motorised and motorised water sports and kids activities. Amilla’s house reef has its own dive site within snorkelling distance of the beach. Guests will also have the opportunity to explore Baa Atoll’s other resorts, to avoid guests being ‘marooned’ on a single island.
