Young Pioneers help to tackle childhood obesity
POSTED 09 Jun 2014 . BY Aimee Nash
Lancaster was presented with a Points of Light award recognising his volunteering efforts
An 18-year-old whose award-winning programme has helped more than 5,000 youngsters lead healthy lifestyles and tackle childhood obesity, has received an award from David Cameron.

Luke Lancaster is the country’s youngest voluntary sector chief executive and set up the Young Pioneers charity back in 2008, after bullying left him feeling alone with no support.

He was recently presented with a Prime Minister's Points of Light award recognising his volunteering efforts and the work his team does to help victims of bullying.

As part of the Be Healthy programme set up by Young Pioneers, youth trainers go into schools and communities to deliver health MOT’s and teach other young people about the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.

The project allows young victims of bullying to volunteer and help other young people improve their wellbeing.

Jeremy Jenkins, managing director at SportsArt, which supports the programme by donating a percentage from every kit sale, said: “We aim to help tackle the current obesity epidemic and improve the lives of young people across the UK.”
