Limited time Coronation Street attraction shows star appeal
POSTED 07 May 2014 . BY Tom Anstey
The famous cobbles site was home to Britain's oldest soap for 53 years
The recently opened Coronation Street tour is proving popular as a fixed-term attraction with more than 12,000 people visiting the site on a weekly basis.

More than half of the 300,000 tickets at the Manchester-based attraction have been sold. The tourist destination, which will run for six months, opened in April and is expected to generate more than £5m.

Predicted numbers for the exhibition would make ‘Coronation Street: The Tour’ the third-highest grossing visitor attraction in the north west and among the top 20 in the UK annually.

The ITV soap’s famous cobbles were created at the former studio site in Quay Street, Manchester, the show’s home for more than 53 years.

Fans that go on the tour will be able to view a host of locations such as the Rover’s Return pub and a number of items from the show.

Continuum Leading Attractions, the operator behind the attraction, is currently reviewing whether or not it will be possible to release more tickets to the public, thanks to such high demand.

The wider Granada Studios complex was bought by developers Allied London and Manchester council in a £26.5m deal, with long-term plans for the site to form part of a blueprint for a new city centre neighbourhood.
