Following a one year, £2.85m redevelopment, Sleaford Leisure Centre in Lincolnshire opened its doors today (5th November).
The refurbishment was done by North Kesteven District Council, in partnership with Leisure Connection. The changes bring the centre in line with modern trends for larger exercise studios, better reception and changing areas and improved gym facilities.
The wet areas were also improved with the 25m pool being refurbished, a childrens’ splash pool has been added along with a new sauna and steamroom.
Leisure Connection is hoping the improvements will double the number of users.
The 140-year old building presented some challenges during the project and the outside had to be rebuilt.
Leader of North Kesteven District Council, Marion Brighton, says: “The origins of this centre are in the riverside lido of 1872. It is such a joy that 141 years on we are able to welcome new generations from across the district to swim and exercise in these most modern and comfortable facilities.”
