Fusion Lifestyle launches £20 million leisure centre in the heart of Lewisham
POSTED 10 Jul 2013 . BY Tim Nash
In June Fusion Lifestyle, in partnership with Lewisham Council, opened the doors to Glass Mill Leisure Centre, a stunning new £20m development located on Loampit Vale in the London Borough of Lewisham.

The site has been designed by leisure specialists LA Architects, has superb environmental credentials, and will offer a range of the most up-to-date facilities and equipment.

As well as an 8-lane swimming pool with seating for 300 spectators, there is a training pool, a 100-station gym, a climbing wall and two studios offering an extensive programme of classes. Users of the leisure centre will also be able to pamper themselves in a health suite with treatment rooms and sauna, steam and 'ice' rooms.

The centre is fully accessible and includes a swimming pool with a completely moveable floor, specific changing cubicles with wheelchair access and signage suitable for the visually impaired. Great thought has gone into changing areas to ensure privacy for women and specific areas for families and people with disabilities.

A key feature of the building is the stunning display of over 1,800 coloured tiles, designed by artist Phil Coy, that form the façade and carry through into a rainbow of light in the various parts of the centre. Glass Mill's exterior also includes a lighting display that changes in line with the surrounding soundscape. The on-site Rhubarb and Custard Café will also be a great attraction at the site, offering a full menu of delicious food and drinks throughout the day, and run by an award winning local firm who already have a committed following amongst the local community.

Fusion Lifestyle Chief Executive, Pete Kay, said of the opening: "We are extremely impressed with the high standard of facilities now on offer at Glass Mill Leisure Centre and are proud and excited to begin the management of this fantastic centre.

"We believe that the addition of Glass Mill to our Lewisham portfolio of first-rate facilities provides Fusion Lifestyle with an unbeatable platform to further extend the scope and reach of our services. We will continue to drive up participation, develop our programmes and activities and provide new opportunities for everyone in Lewisham.

"For anyone who is yet to see the stunning new centre, now is the perfect time to stop by for a tour of the facilities."

Mayor of Lewisham, Sir Steve Bullock, took a dip in the new swimming pool and said: "I am delighted to mark the opening of this outstanding new leisure centre. Glass Mill is the culmination of over a decade of leisure investment in the borough.

"There is now a real opportunity for local people to take part in affordable leisure in all areas around the borough. That is what we have always been aiming for."

Glass Mill Leisure Centre is one of over 70 centres across the South East of England and Greater London managed by Fusion Lifestyle, and aims to provide quality sports and leisure facilities for all members of the community at accessible prices.
