A new extension and a 112sq m (1,206sq ft) fitness suite have been completed as part of a wider £9.1m revamp of the Matthew Moss High School in Rochdale, Greater Manchester.
The new gym forms part of the Building Schools for the Future project, which commenced in July 2010 and is expected to be fully completed by Easter 2012.
Extension work has seen the school's sports hall linked to the main school facilities with a new passageway, with an old conference room transformed into the new fitness suite.
Precor has equipped the facility with its Experience Series range, which comprises Adaptive Motion Trainers treadmills and bikes featuring the P80 console.
The school raised funding to buy the equipment through the external letting of its synthetic pitches and sports hall to clubs such as Rochdale AFC and Rochdale Junior Netball Club.
Students will be able to make use of the gym during school hours, while it is proposed that it will be let out to personal trainers for exclusive use during non-school hours.
School business manager Karen Neville said: "Our aim was to enable students to get maximum usage from the new fitness suite and the fact that they will offer networked fitness means that the teachers can use the equipment to support the curriculum."
