Leisure trust Tone is planning to roll out its Feel Good Factory concept across its portfolio of managed centres following a successful 10-month pilot period.
Currently based at its Blackbrook Pavilion centre in Somerset, Feel Good Factory is a ladies-only power assisted fitness and inch loss centre.
It has its own entrance and reception that separates it from the main facility and is targeted at females who are overweight and/or have limited mobility.
The equipment, which includes toning beds and chairs, is especially designed to be suitable for those whose movement is restricted and who might find the main gym either intimidating or unsuitable.
The centre has a total of twelve exercise stations - six chairs and six beds - all of which are used as a 30-minute circuit. The equipment is supplied by Shapemaster as part of a partnership agreement with Alliance Leisure.
There are also Powertone and Easytone machines.
Since opening in January 2010, the first Feel Good Factory has recruited more than 310 local members, many of whom have never used a gym before. During the 10 months, members have clocked up a total average of more than 1,600 visits each month.
Penny Crout, Feel Good Factory supervisor, said: "Our clients have found that once they get started, the growth in terms of what they achieve each session is exponential and it's really lovely to see their confidence with exercise blossom each time they attend."
"The key is to make sure the exercise is regular and that you build up your efforts at an appropriate rate, which is where our expert staff and specially chosen equipment come in."
