A new fitness apprenticeship scheme, which is designed to allow employers to access government funding, has been launched by Premier Training International (PTI).

The new apprenticeships will integrate the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) Certificate in Personal Training and the OPT Model, a training programme based on scientific research.

Designed to enable personal trainers to work towards individual needs and goals, it is hoped candidates will be able to develop training programmes scientifically proven to deliver results.

Candidates will be provided with qualifications recognised in the UK, Europe and the US through PTI's partnership with NASM as part of the six-month apprenticeship programmes.

Government funding worth up to £3,000 per candidate has been made available to employers, with the scheme open to 16-to-24-year olds who are receiving no other funded training.

Candidates must also be able to work a minimum of 16 hours per week within the Greater London area.

PTI chief executive Debra Stuart said: "This new apprenticeship will not only offer candidates high quality training delivery by the Premier team but they will also receive internationally recognised certification.

"The benefits to employers will be increasing staff skills and retention, which in turn will boost potential income for businesses. It's a win-win situation for employers and employees."
