London launch for Come Play Sport
POSTED 15 Apr 2010 . BY Pete Hayman
Londoners are being given the chance to participate in unusual sports - such as dodgeball, unihoc and inner tube water polo - at the capital's first sport and social club.

Come Play Sport - a concept that aims to combine playing sport and socialising - has launched its first league competitions at a number of venues across the city this week (10-15 April).

Each of the four initial sports, which also features volleyball, will enable teams or individuals to compete against each other in a six or seven-a-side format.

The first venues to be unveiled as part of the project are located in the City of London, Islington, Borough and Battersea, with plans in place to introduce more sports in the future.

Individuals who sign up will pay £75 for a 14-week season and full teams will pay £800, with everyone receiving a free trial. Members will also be given the chance to take advantage of a discounted bar or pub as part of the social element.

Come Play founder Rufus Hack said: "Every big city in North America has a sport and social club, which is a hub of both the sports and social scene. Now, its London's turn.

"It's for those who are bored with the gym and want to try new sports and meet new people. It's also for those who find the usual team sports too serious or competitive."

Sport seasons are expected to start in Angel on 17 April.
