Dance mats hit the road in Carlisle
POSTED 06 Apr 2009 . BY Tim Nash
A new £30,000 mobile dance project has been launched by sports trust Carlisle Leisure.

Funded by the trust, with an additional £10,000 from the Healthy Communities and Older Peoples group (HCOP), the LifeStyle fitness team from the Sands Centre is now taking to the road in a new van with 16 interactive dance mats supplied by Pulse.

The scheme is designed to appeal to seven- to 15-year-olds.

Jim Douglas, managing director of Carlisle Leisure, said: "Thanks to forward thinking by both HCOP and Carlisle Leisure we are now able to go directly to the schools and community to deliver innovative dance and exercise in an environment which the youngsters will not be able to resist.

"Having seen it in operation in Barrow I cant wait to see the reaction of the children of Carlisle, all of which will help combat the growing problem of inactivity with young people."

Dan Anderton, CLL's Healthy LifeStyle co-ordinator added: "We're very excited about LifeStyle on the Road as it gives us the opportunity to get right into the heart of the community and bring with us a fun new approach to health and fitness.

"Having the new van means that we will be able to reach as many schools and community groups as we can over the coming months to carry out demonstrations and to let as many people as possible have a go."

As part of the scheme, the team will also be delivering workshops covering a range of topics including healthy eating.
