Luxury hotel group, Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts, will open its second hotel in Australia later this year.
The group has invested around AUS$25m (£9.5m) in renovating and rebranding the former Radisson Plaza Hotel in Cairns, which will reopen in August as the Shangri-La Hotel, The Marina, Cairns.
The 256-room hotel has been transformed by Sydney-based group, Watermark Architecture and Interiors.
Improvements will include 36 new marina rooms with ocean-view bathrooms and a new themed restaurant with open kitchens.
Leisure facilities at the hotel will include an outdoor swimming pool, a fitness centre and a 250sq m spa. There will also be a 400-seat ballroom and a number of boardrooms.
Ed Brea, general manager, said: “I look forward to bringing Shangri-La’s distinctive style of hospitality to Cairns.
“The revitalised waterfront area and Pier Shopping Centre will offer an ideal location for business and leisure travellers.”
The Hong Kong-based Shangri-La group currently manages 42 hotels worldwide, with a room capacity of over 21,000. Details: www.shangri-la.com
