Just Benches, the Sussex-based outdoor furniture company, reports that the National Trust (NT) has approved its latest picnic table - The Disability Table - and has named the company as sole supplier of the tables to the entire NT.
In accordance with Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) legislation, the table is suitable for both able bodied and wheelchair bound people, its design being based on a ladder frame system which allows clear access underneath.
The ladder frame construction - unique to the company, which has applied for a patent for it - is also said to do away with the unstable wobble which is often a feature of picnic benches.
Built from pressure treated redwood the table comes in three sizes - 9ft/276cm, 7ft/214cm and 6ft/180cm. All are 77.75in/197.5cm wide (including the seat) and 32in/81.5cm high.
The largest of the benches will accommodate eight adults and two wheelchairs, while the 6ft model has space for five adults and one wheelchair.
Just Benches also has standard picnic tables available - 8ft/244cm, 6ft/183cm and 4ft/122cm, seating eight, six and four adults respectively.
