JD Wetherspoon has opened its sixth pub in Lisburn, Northern Ireland. The Tuesday Bell, managed by Andrew Haldane, is part of an ambitious expansion programme to open 50 pubs in Northern Ireland over the next five years. The Lisburn site brings the total number of Wetherspoon pubs in the UK to 550. Wetherspoon Chairman Tim Martin said: Our pubs in Northern Ireland continue to be successful and we are looking forward to more opening in the near future. This is part of a £23m redevelopment of Lisburn town centre called Lisburn Square. Owned by developers Cusp Limited, Lisburn Square comprises 29 retail units, 11,400sq ft of office accommodation and 45 apartments. Investment in Lisburn has already produced Northern Ireland's largest swimming pool, Lagan Valley LeisurePlex, and the £25m Lagan Valley island facilities.
