The National Water Sports Centre in Nottinghamshire is planning a multi-million pound upgrade to enhance facilities across the 270-acre site.
Nottinghamshire County Council, which runs the facility, has said Serco is its preferred bidder to manage, operate and maintain the site.
The council hopes that theinvestment, which includes a £1.6m contribution from the County Council, will secure the facility's long-term future.
The plans include improving fitness facilities within a new larger gym and performance gym and to add a new "Sky Trail" high ropes course and an adventure golf course in the new 'family' zone.
New activities on site such as Outdoor Laser Quest, Segways, cycle hire and more water-based activities will also be implemented.
The main building is to undergo a redevelopment to enhance accommodation, catering and conferencing facilities.
The council said that the operation, management and investment proposals would save over £14m in revenue costs over the life of the 21-year contract. Councillor John Cottee, culture committee chair at Nottinghamshire County Council said: "The National Water Sports Centre is one of Nottinghamshire's crown jewels - this plan secures an exciting future for the centre for the next generation of users.
"It is fantastic news on the back of an unforgettable year of sport in 2012 and forms part of the County Council's sporting legacy for what is the Sporting County.
Olympic gold medallists Tim Baillie and Etienne Stott trained at the centre before the 2012 Olympics.
