Drapes and rigging specialist, Blackout, was recently contracted by Park Avenue Productions to install five model crocodiles in the River Thames.
Lurking in the lagoon between the British Airways London Eye and the floating pier, the crocs were there to celebrate the release of the Peter Pan feature film.
Tidal movements in relation to the pier and the Eye, plus the currents up and down stream, needed to be calculated before they could be installed. Working from a small inflatable boat, Blackout used specialist rigging equipment and a network of underwater wire ropes to not only get the replica reptiles into position but to ensure that they stayed there.
The 6m long, fibreglass beasts were made by prop and scenic specialists, 2D3D, lit by lighting hire company, Brightlights, and proved to be a real crowd-puller.
Their sojourn in the Royal River was complemented by themed ‘enchanting’ capsules on the London Eye, which featured a half-hour of story telling and Peter Pan fantasy.
