Luminar predicted a bumper Christmas and New Year as it unveiled half year results that suggested consumers would continue to spend on leisure. After posting a doubling of half-year profits before tax to £23.1m, Stephen Thomas, chief executive, said the group would be totally focused on developing concepts for differing lifestyle brands: Roll out and organic expansion will be funded through internally generated cash, he said. A further five Jumpin' Jaks units will open within the next few months and the group intends extending its Teen Scene brand ukclubculture format to 72 venues. The brand caters for 14-17 year olds and over the past year has hosted 124 events in 63 clubs with 75,000 admissions. Luminar believes its magazine, handed to attendees, is an 'excellent medium of communicating to this previously untapped and valuable market'.
