Boutique fitness operator launches exercise referral programme

The launch of TenClinical allows us to work more closely with the medical community
– Joanne Mathews
Independently-owned boutique fitness operator Ten Health and Fitness has launched an exercise prescription programme for its clients.

The operator, which has eight studios across London, will begin offering the specialist service to clients who look to tackle health issues – such as cancer, heart disease and diabetes – through physical activity.

Called TenClinical, the one-to-one sessions will be underpinned by a clinical approach and are led by clinical exercise specialists, with fully-integrated physiotherapy and massage support.

Each session will feature a clinical, functional and musculoskeletal assessment – including a Biostat (bio-impedance) test to measure the body’s percentage of fat, lean muscle and water – which will underpin each individual programme.

All sessions are closely monitored, with regular measurements of key clinical indicators, functional performance statistics and body composition percentages to assess performance and measure improvement.

This will allow TenClinical practitioners to support clients’ recovery by providing their medical professionals – surgeons, consultants and medical teams – with regular detailed and quantified feedback on progression and outcomes.

Joanne Mathews, founder of Ten health and Fitness said: “These days we all know someone – a friend, a relative, a partner, a colleague – living with a life-changing or threatening condition.

"Ten Health and Fitness already bridges the gap between the fitness sector and the medical community, and the launch of TenClinical is the logical and timely next step, allowing us to work more closely with the medical community to help improve outcomes and quality of life for clients affected by one if these terrible but all too common issues.”

"Our priority is client wellbeing and safety. Each session is designed to incorporate a range of factors, including the physical and emotional impact of the client’s condition, the effect of medication and treatment cycles on the body’s ability to tolerate exercise, along with mood, lifestyle issues and any external factors."

Ten Health and Fitness was launched in 2007 and specialises in providing personal training, reformer pilates classes, physiotherapy, massage therapy and rehabilitation training.
