The Pitcher & Piano pub chain has taken recycling to a new dimension by installing bar counters made from empty bottles.
East London-based manufacturer, Eight Inch, has supplied two of the group’s branches with new bar tops built of TTURA, a composite material made up of 85 per cent recycled bottle bank glass.
The material is custom made and available in any colour, has a highly polished finish similar to that of granite or marble and provides a striking, easy to clean, hard wearing and stain resistant surface.
The bar tops – one at Pitcher & Piano’s Fulham Road venue and the other at the Upper Street, Islington site – each weigh between 350 - 400kg and contain an amount of recycled glass equivalent to 800 wine bottles.
Other applications for TTURA include kitchens, bathrooms, furniture, flooring, staircases, shop fittings and architectural features.
Eight Inch is supported by London Remade, a body promoting sustainability through good design.
