Warwickshire-based Useful Structures has recently designed and installed a totally relocatable sports hall for Dartmouth High School in Birmingham.
The structure is a temporary solution while the new replacement Q3 Academy is being built. As the site was extremely tight as well as in a designated greenbelt area, the hall needed to be quick and easy to erect and also sit well with the landscape.
Useful Structures' Alpha system also offers high eave heights and clear span space internally, allowing the hall to comply with Sport England requirements.
Flexibility was a further key requirement since the school may want to relocate the structure to another location on site at a later stage or alternatively sell it on if it is no longer required.
The building had to be well lit and heated as it will also be used to hold examinations during the interim period. The membrane roof allows optimum use of natural daylight so there is no need for the use of electricity during daylight hours and the heating system is responsive enough to allow the building to be used as a classroom facility when necessary.
