With more than 2,000 exhibitors, the 54th edition of Salone del Mobile is taking place this week with a wide variety of products set to be introduced to the market.
Held at the Rho Milan Fairgrounds between 14-19 April, the event is split into three style categories: Classic, Modern and Design; the International Furnishing Accessories Exhibition; and SaloneSatellite.
The biennial Euroluce / International Lighting Exhibition will also run concurrently, showcasing the latest in outdoor, indoor, industrial, event/show, special use and hospital lighting solutions.
Timed to coincide with the event, and marking UNESCO’s 2015 International Year of Light, architect Attilio Stocchi has created an immersive event installation which explores the essence of light. ‘FAVILLA. To every light a voice’ takes place in a mysterious black box located in the Piazza San Fedele in Milan, and highlights the way light moves, how it is seen by the eye, and how it allows people to discover new shapes.
Created by architectural practice Four in the Morning to a design by architect Dario Curatolo, ‘In Italy’ is another event taking place. It will feature 64 Italian manufacturers and a select group of designers, planners and architects, who will tackle the theme of products, design and planning. The firms involved will create a film providing a virtual exploration of production processes, which will then become an installation and app.
Salone del Mobile is expecting more than 300,000 visitors from over 160 countries.
