HLD decking has been installed at the new Davies Alpine House at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Kew.
The 2006 RIBA Award-winning landmark building is the first new glasshouse to be constructed at the World Heritage site for more than 20 years and has an important outside feature in the form of a raised deck area.
This allows visitors views across the stream and HLD Antislip Plus® decking was selected for complementing the aesthetics of the building itself.
The decking is made from Ekki hardwood, a product said to be ideal for use where high pedestrian traffic is expected and resistance to wear is important. The boards are also designed to provide improved grip even when wet.
Tested to exceed BS912:Part 114 for skid resistance testing, Antislip Plus uses resin based aggregate inserts, which are injected into the grooves of the castellation in the profiled deckboards. As an alternative, grooves can be machined into smooth boards for the inserts.
The resin inserts are dark grey in colour, which blend in with the deck board colouration as it weathers over time.
