UGC Cinemas is continuing its expansion with three new facilities in Cardiff, Glasgow and Middlesborough. UGC Cardiff will be the Welsh flagship site, set in the heart of the city and offering 15 'black box' screens, providing over 3,000 seats in total. The site, which opened to the public on Friday, is due to be officially opened by HRH The Prince of Wales later on today, raising funds for Prince's Trust Cymru. The 12-storey, 18-screen Glasgow cinema will be one of the tallest cinemas in the UK when it opens to the public in September. A brownfield site, like Cardiff, it is hoped that the building might play a role in encouraging redevelopment of the area. The Middlesborough UGC cinema opened at the end of last month. The 11-screen facility, which has a capacity of 2,564 seats has had a successful first month according to commercial director Mike Thomson: We are delighted by the response we have received from the local community. Following on from the highly successful launch we are looking forward to continuing to provide Middlesborough with a quality cinema experience and a wide choice of films at value for money prices.
