Bookmaker Ladbroke is to recruit 1,000 members of staff to brace itself for a betting boom in October. The staff will be recruited following the Gambling Review Board's recommendation to cut tax on betting when the new gaming laws come into force in the autumn. The 9 per cent tax cut will bring punters back to betting in the UK after having to place offshore bets through the internet to avoid the tax. The staff will be recruited for Ladbroke's 1,900 shops in the UK, as part of a £40m investment in the high street shops, with plans to open 40 city centre superstores over the next two years.
