Business in Sport and Leisure (BISL), the representative body for private sector companies in the sport, leisure and hospitality industry, has welcomed the Charity Commission's decision to grant charitable status to community sports clubs which promote healthy recreation The decision means that community amateur sports clubs, which promote the health and fitness of their members, can apply to become charities. We recognise the valuable role that sport can play in improving the health of the nation, said John Stoker, chief charity commissioner. We hope those bodies will see this as an opportunity to gain recognition and financial support for the valuable work they do.
