A Mid-Devon village, which has more than doubled in size in the last 20 years, has applied to turn a 12-acre field into a sport and leisure development. Hemyock Parish Council, in conjunction with West of England Development Ltd, is planning three tennis courts, two football pitches, a bowling green, pavillion and children's play area as well as a picnic, wildlife and recreation area. The council will seek lottery funding if planning permission is granted. The village is already converting a former St Ivel factory into a sports hall and gym with an adjacent BMX track.
