A £7m water garden phase at Alnwick Castle in Northumberland is nearing completion, boasting a grand cascade fuelled by pump rooms and computer controlled panels. The garden with holding tanks of 250,000 gallons of water, is part of the £14m Alnwich Garden Scheme to realise the Duchess of Northumberland's aim 'to create one of Europe's most imaginative gardens for a century'. Fund raising will now commence to raise the remaining £7m needed to complete the project. Unusually, public access has been encouraged throughout the building project on the site of the old 18th century castle garden. For details: www.alnwickgarden.com.
