Jarvis Hotels is to delay a planned £20m redevelopment of its Manchester Piccadilly Hotel. The 272-room, 1960s hotel, was set to close at the end of this year for complete refurbishment, with re-opening scheduled for spring 2003. But due to the current downturn in tourism in the UK following the 11 September terrorist attacks, the hotel's closure is now set for next autumn. This will allow Jarvis to benefit from staying open for business during next summer's Commonwealth Games in Manchester.
