Woodford Leisure Centre in Hull, East Yorkshire has reopened after undergoing an 18-month, £6m redevelopment.
Works at the centre included the installation of a new 25m six-lane swimming pool, the addition of a learner pool and a new gym fitted with Precor equipment.
The gym also features a new, fully-immersive virtual studio, with a six-metre screen, interactive lighting and audio system.
The studio is among the largest in any UK public leisure centre and will deliver a variety of classes with a 30-bike spinning session, guided rides, high-intensity fitness classes and holistic sessions, alongside the traditional instructor-led session.
Owned by Hull City Council (HCC) and operated by Hull Culture and Leisure, the centre has also been equipped with new environmental technologies – such as a thermal glazing system roof – to reduce operating costs.
The opening of Woodford Leisure Centre has spelt the end for the historic East Hull baths, which first opened in 1898. The ageing building closed its doors for the final time in April and has been put up for sale by the council.
