Ski jumper Eddie ‘The Eagle’ Edwards has been announced as the keynote speaker for SIBEC EU in Spain next month.

The meeting forum, which brings together industry suppliers and operators from the private, local authority and trust markets in health, fitness and leisure, will take place at the Don Carlos Leisure Resort and Spa in Marbella, from 8-11 November.

About 220 delegates will attend the forum, now in its 21st year, and hear Edwards share insights into how the determination to succeed against the odds led to him achieving a lifetime’s ambition.

The British skier was propelled into the media spotlight at the 1988 Winter Olympic Games in Calgary, becoming the first competitor since 1929 to represent Great Britain in Olympic ski jumping. Despite finishing last in the 70m and 90m events, Edwards became the British ski jumping record holder.

David Jenkins, event director at Questex-Mclean Events, said: “As an athlete who truly embodied the spirit of the Olympic Games, Eddie will help inspire and entertain our delegates.”
