| Community group takes judicial action over council leisure plans |

A community action group has commenced judicial review proceedings against Sheffield City Council over proposals that would effectively close the Stocksbridge Leisure Centre.
The council tentatively approved proposals to remove £400,000 of subsidies for the leisure centre at a meeting on 1 March, but has deferred a final decision until the end April to allow the community to progress alternative proposals.
It called for the submission of a business plan by 25 March but community action group 4SLC said due to the limited information it had been given it was only able to submit an outline business plan.
4SLC argues the council did not properly consult the public on its decision at its 1 March meeting, and is in breach of the Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED).
Its judicial challenge seeks to achieve a "new and rigorous consultation" and re-assessment of the needs of the disabled and elderly users of the leisure centre.
The council has plans for a new centre in North Sheffield to serve the whole district.
