Swindon Borough Council will this week discuss how to ensure a sustainable future for arts and leisure services in the region, as it prepares for an expected £15m budget gap in the 2014-15 financial year.
The cost of providing leisure and culture in the borough for the next financial year is £3.6m and the council says it will be unable continue services as it does now if further reductions are made.
Options for change to be discussed at the 20 March meeting include outsourcing management of golf and leisure facilities, and relocating the borough’s museum and art collections.
Councillor Gary Perkins, cabinet member for regeneration and culture, said: “We are facing unprecedented financial pressures as a council and we cannot go on as we are.
“We need to explore what options are out there to ensure our services are sustainable and contribute to our social and economic outcomes.”
